Social Media Marketing in September: Big Changes Marketers Need to Know About

Our social media agency recently made you aware of some big changes that happened in the social media marketing world in August.

As you well know, change and social media go hand-in-hand and trying to keep up with these changes can sometimes feel like a full-time job.

As September comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to fill you in on some of the biggest changes that happened to the social media marketing landscape this past month.

As marketers, these are definitely some changes that you’ll want to take note of:

Twitter added a “donate to politician” CTA button.

Social media has proven to be a very effective tool for politicians to raise awareness about who they are and what they stand for.

With the 2016 presidential race well on its way, Twitter is now making it incredibly easy for politicians to promote themselves AND collect donations.

That’s right.

Twitter has added a “donate to politician” CTA button that allows supporters to send donations directly to their politician of choice simply by clicking a button.

Once the button is clicked, the supporter will enter the donation amount and a few fields of personal information.

If the supporter is already using Square’s Cash platform (the CTA button is a widget created by Square), the transaction will then be finished.

Instagram advertising launches September 30th.

We’ve already broken the big news to you that Instagram will be opening up its social media advertising services to businesses of all sizes

This change will take effect for businesses around the blog on September 30th, so get ready to start seeing more Instagram ads in your newsfeed.

Another big Instagram marketing change that is rolling out September 30th is the introduction of 30-second video ads.

Marketers have historically only been able to share 15-second videos on this social media platform, so the longer video length should prove to be more beneficial in helping brands tell their stories.

Facebook added a “donate now” CTA button.

Facebook, too, is apparently gearing up for the political races by adding a “donate now” CTA button on both link ads and pages.

However, Facebook is promoting this additional CTA button more as a benefit for non-profit organizations  that use Facebook to create awareness for their causes.

Talk of the Facebook “dislike” button buzzes in the social media marketing world.

There has been a lot of buzz about the introduction of a Facebook dislike button; however, this is currently non-existent.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg did hint at the possibility of a dislike button being added at some point in the near future.

For the time being, though, any promises to get Facebook’s dislike button in exchange for taking a survey is a scam.

Twitter launched its ad editor.

Understanding that businesses are frequently running multiple social media marketing campaigns at once, Twitter decided to make things easier for marketers by launching an ad editing tool that allows advertisers to create and manage their campaigns in bulk.

Hootsuite rolled out scheduling capabilities for Instagram posts.

Until recently, Hootsuite did not offer marketers the ability to schedule Instagram content from its social media marketing dashboard.

So now, if your company uses Instagram for marketing purposes, you’ll be happy to know that you can manage all of your social media marketing efforts from one central location if you are a Hootsuite user.

While there are a lot of pros to this enhancement to Hootsuite’s social media marketing dashboard, you still need to use a mobile device to make your Instagram images go live, and there are still a few kinks to work through if you’re using Hootsuite to manage multiple Instagram accounts.

With the growing popularity of Instagram marketing, we can expect to see Hootsuite continue to improve its capabilities with this social media platform.
